Design Features - Hospital
Due to the sloping nature of the site, the General Hospital’s main entrance is situated on the middle level (Level 200) at the building’s east end, allowing for efficient access to Levels 100 and Level 300.
The Emergency Department entrance is located in the northeast corner, close to the main entrance on Level 200, with its own walk-in entrance and a separate ambulance entrance. A helicopter pad will be situated in the southeast corner of the site for efficient patient transfers to the ER Department.
The main inpatient pods at the new General Hospital are positioned on the south side of the building to ensure patient access to good natural sunlight. A central main corridor provides a buffer zone, yet easy access from the inpatient pods to the outpatient and support services building.
There will be an increased percentage of single rooms and more spacious double rooms designed to allow each patient a window view and a connection to the outdoors. Here inpatient rooms are large enough to accommodate family caregivers and accommodate overnight stays with loved ones.
Courtyard garden areas, easily accessible from the main-floor inpatient units will be supplemented with large indoor plants to create a year round connection with nature.
