About the Project

In this section you will find facts and information about the project including design features, frequent questions, and the Project Partners.

The North Bay Regional Health Centre will be comprised of a three-storey general hospital significantly larger than the present facility and equipped to offer more services. It will also include a two-storey North Bay site for the Northeast Mental Health Centre. The new North Bay Regional Health Centre will have a combined total of 388 beds.

The new North Bay General Hospital will expand services to include:

  • A larger Emergency Department to accommodate over 57,000 patients per year;
  • A new Ambulatory Care Centre, consolidating all outpatient clinics, and capable of treating over 63,000 patient visits per year;
  • 235 acute care beds and a new 40-bed acute adult mental health unit;
  • An expansion from 10 to 16 beds in the Critical Care Unit, 10 to 42 beds in Complex Continuing Care, and 10 to 29 beds in Rehabilitation Care.

The Northeast Mental Health Centre will be linked to the General Hospital via a shared entrance leading into a "Village Square" that unites the two facilities. The centre will accommodate 52 forensic psychiatry beds and 61 specialized mental health beds; 113 beds across this facility.

Plenary Health was awarded the contract to build, finance and maintain the North Bay Regional Health Centre facility over 33 years (3 years construction, 30 years maintenance).
